PTSD Dog Fundraising Dinner
Caulfield RSL will be holding a fundraising dinner to raise money to help fund a PTSD Assistance dog for a Victorian Veteran.
The dinner will be held on Monday November 4th (Melbourne Cup Eve) from 6pm.
Hosted by Richard Stubbs, the cost for the evening is $100 per head, with a percentage going directly to PTSD Dogs Australia. You will meet the dogs, and their handlers and learn more about the important role these rescued dogs do to piece together the lives of humans. It can cost between $35,000 to $40,000 to train one dog, which is then donated to their handler.
Following the 2 course meal, entertainment will be provided by Charlie and Fi
If you are not able to make the dinner, cash donations can be made at the Club along with prizes to auction and raffle.
Due to works to the footpath outside Caulfield RSL, the front stairs will be closed from Thursday 5/9 for the next couple of days.
Please use the pathway near driveway to enter and exit the front door.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
Are you ready to step up?

The DVA 10,000 Steps Challenge will take place between Monday 11th November and Sunday 8th December.
How it works:
This is a virtual step challenge where participants work together to count their steps every day over four weeks, During this time DVA will send out a weekly postcard on Tuesday and Newsletters on Thursdays to keep everyone up to date on their progress. There are random prize winners announced, mini team challenges and instant quizzes.
How and when you walk is up to you, but could include regularly meeting up with other CRSL members and walking together, walking your dog (1 of whom can be a member of the team), or just counting your steps as you go about your day.
Steppers can use a smart phone or health tracker (such as Fitbit or Garmin) to track their steps. There is a 10,000 steps app that can be downloaded for Apple and Android which allows you to enter you steps through the app, which then updates your 10,000 Steps profile. Fitbit users can synch their trackers to automatically update their profile. There are prizes for the best team, best mascot etc.

Have you served overseas as a member of the army reserve?
Researchers from the Swinburne University of Technology are conducting a study into employment challenges faced by Army Reservists transitioning back into the civilian workforce after completing overseas operation duty.
You will be asked to attend a one-hour one-on-one interview that will focus on your experience in transitioning from your overseas deployment back into the civilian workforce.
Results from this study will help researchers develop a better understanding of the transition challenges faced by reservists who have served overseas on full-time duty.
We would like to hear from currently serving or former Army Reserve personnel who:
• Have served overseas on operation duty as a reservist
• Are between the ages of 21 and 55 years
• Have been in the civilian workforce in any capacity (contract, casual, part-time, fulltime) for at least three years
• Residing in Victoria and willing to volunteer for a one-hour private interview in the Melbourne CBD or at an RSL sub-branch near where you live or work.
The ethical aspects of this research have been approved by both the Departments of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs Human Research Ethics Committee and the Swinburne University of Technology Human Research Ethics Committee.

“In this, our 100th year, we have set an ambitious fundraising target for this year’s ANZAC Appeal and need our community's support to reach our goal. We want to get more volunteers out there selling badges and raising much needed funds for veterans.”
“We would welcome the support of anyone who has an hour or two of their time to donate to the Appeal” , continued Mr Bradley said. “This could involve helping us pack the badges into trays, dropping our ANZAC Appeal badges off at local businesses or helping us sell badges for an hour or two”
RSL Victoria Appeals Manager, Peter Smith OAM said “Raising funds for veterans and their families in times of need is what we do and we welcome businesses, sporting clubs, friends and family to be a part of helping this great cause”. News regarding the Pool Table and TAB area
Dear Members and Guests
We have some important information regarding the TAB and Pool table areas, management can confirm that in the foreseeable future unfortunately the pool table will be removed from the Caulfield RSL. A date has been allocated, Monday 12 November 2018 the pool table will be removed and works for the TAB move and upgrade will occur during that week continuing into the week starting November 19 2018.
This information has been made public to our membership through our latest addition of FURFs, this was emailed to all registered members/subscribers on the 3 October 2018 and management have placed a FURFs Edition into the Membership Notice Board, the FURFs can be accessed and read through our website: www.crsl.com.au
The executive committee held a strategic planning session around 3 years ago (2015) and set some business objectives, needless to say the pool table was highlighted, as was the TAB area, the plans for the Caulfield RSL was to move the TAB into the current area of the pool table - the TAB will be updated into full digital TAB.
The current TAB area will be redeveloped into a café / lounge extending out into the alfresco area to generate additional options for our members and guests.
The unfortunate outcome that we found as the management and committee of Caulfield RSL was that we couldn’t see how or where a pool table could fit into the future business models due to space constraints within our Club, we understand when this occurs some of our valuable members will be affected, we hope they continue to support the Caulfield RSL.
Any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact me on email@example.com

Enjoy a bacon & egg banjo & a cup of coffee in the 4 Court on Saturday mornings
Want a great way to kick off your Saturday?

Wild Timor Coffee Co are run by a group of young veterans, who, in early 2012 were sent as part of a task force to help with the stabilisation of Timor-Leste.
After 30 years of neglect, coffee that was originally planted by the Portuguese some 200 years ago, was discovered by the peace keepers in remote villages, as they patrolled the area. The former soldiers have helped local growers harvest the coffee independently, receive a fair and equitable price for their product and support their local community.
They will set up their coffee cart in the 4 Court from 10am until noon.

Another Thursday night where the member whose number was drawn out was not present to claim their prize.

Member's Draw continues to rise
On Thursday 30th November, our member's draw didn't go off again. Member number# 1287343 wasn't present, so the prize pool jackpots to $5,500 next week.
There were a few technical glitches with the state-wide RSL draw for $20,000 which were beyond our control. The network was inundated with people swiping their cards between 4 and 7 pm, causing outages and some frustration. Apologies to anyone who was inconvenienced, however it was beyond CRSL's control. The money was won by a member of the Bendigo RSL.
The bonus $500 was won by Bob Larkin.
Announcement regarding the Flying Saucer Club
The following announcement has just been released by The Flying Saucer Club.
"After recently celebrating our 5th birthday in August of this year, it is with great sadness that we announce that The Flying Saucer Club will not be continuing to operate at The Caulfield RSL in 2018. Unfortunately, we have come to a point where we have outgrown the ageing RSL Dining Room with its limited capacity and are needing to find a new home.
After 5 and half years of hard work, we are all due for a well-earned break and will be taking a short holiday at the beginning of 2018. If anyone is aware of a suitable room that could become Flying Saucer’s new home, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
New Year’s Eve will be our final show at the RSL and thus a massive farewell party! Come and support your local live music venue one last time.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Caulfield RSL, the Committee, Management and Staff for all of their support over the years, especially those that were prepared to take a risk with the Flying Saucer in the first place. Thank you also all the amazing artists who have graced our stage over the journey. Most of all, we would like to thank you, the music lovers, our supporters, we couldn't do it without you!" Mark, Theresa, Sam and The Flying Saucer Club Team.
Caulfield RSL President Colin Bradley responded "It has been a pleasure having The Flying Saucer Club and all the amazing bands at our Club for the last 5 years.
Their weekly shows have attracted a growing following and, unfortunately, the infrastructure in our aging building is unable to cope with any further expansion.
Mark and his team have lined up some amazing acts for the rest of the year, and I urge everyone to take the opportunity to enjoy the Flying Saucer Club at Caulfield RSL throughout the rest of November and December.
On behalf of the Committee, Management and Staff of Caulfield RSL, I wish them all the best with their future endeavours."

Petula - from Downtown to Broadway
“‘Petula’ is essential theatre” is how former Nine broadcaster, Tony Porter, describes Petula: From Downtown to Broadway – A Tribute.
Petula Clark is so much more than the 60’s pop princess who sang ‘Downtown’. A career spanning more than 6 decades has seen her evolve from a child star during the 40’s and 50’s and singing sensation during the 60’s to star of Stage and Screen and, now in her 80’s, a concert performer who continues to deliver with passion and skill.
“This show has been a labour of love AND respect”, says Henshaw. “And I love getting to show the audiences the number of different languages that Petula sings in”.
14 months in the creation, the whole idea began when John Michael Howson suggested that Henshaw and Conyers should tackle a show about Petula Clark. “Hilary looks just like her at a stage in her career”, said John Michael to Conyers after a performance of their previous show, ‘Funny Ladies’.
Petula – A Tribute has already done a Victorian Tour and will leave for NSW in September, so the dates at the Caulfield RSL are your last opportunity to see the show in 2017.
There are 2 shows - Monday 7th August @ midday and Monday 14th August - Doors open at 6pm, show from 7.30pm.
Member number 1122862 was drawn out at last night's member draw. It was suggested the member had been present in the club earlier, but had gone home prior to the draw. Unfortunately, he missed out on the prize of $5,750, but that means that it now jackpots to SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS next Thursday night, July 20th. Bookings for the dining room fill fast on Member's night - so don't miss out - book your table today on 9528 3600.
